Befallen Forge – Dungeon Design Showcase
Befallen Forge is a large-scale group dungeon in the Riverlands, built as a high-commitment combat and exploration experience for coordinated parties of 8–10 players. Set within a ruined dwarven forge corrupted during the Great War of the Undying, the dungeon challenges players through prolonged engagement, layered encounter density, and environmental storytelling rooted in industrial collapse and undeath.
In collaboration with environment art, narrative, and NPC teams, the dungeon’s layout and encounters were structured to support sustained group combat across expansive forge chambers and transitional industrial spaces. Enemy compositions—including magma constructs, undead dwarves, and fire elementals—were positioned to create pressure through space control, sightline management, and intentional chokepoints, ensuring readability even during high-intensity encounters.
Progression through Befallen Forge emphasizes attrition and escalation, moving from outer defensive spaces into increasingly volatile interior zones as players push deeper toward the forge’s corrupted core. Elite encounters and bosses function as both mechanical skill checks and narrative milestones, reinforcing the site’s identity as a fallen war engine reclaimed by dark forces. Reward placement and narrative elements are interwoven to maintain pacing and reinforce long-form player investment throughout the dungeon run.
