Church of the Seven Stars — Level Design Showcase

Church of the Seven Stars is a mid-tier cooperative point of interest in the Riverlands biome designed for groups of up to 8 players, supporting up to two concurrent groups within a shared world space. Located near Lionhold and targeted at levels 7–10, the POI introduces early-mid game players to structured group encounters while maintaining approachability and clear spatial readability.

Working closely with environment artists, narrative designers, and NPC teams, I developed three named mob encounters designed to leverage verticality and layered spaces to promote varied player interactions and tactical decision-making. Each encounter was positioned to reinforce natural movement through the space, using elevation changes, sightlines, and architectural landmarks to guide players intuitively.

The POI features a seamless encounter progression, beginning with lighter exterior enemy presence to draw players inward, transitioning into stronger mini-boss encounters and reward spaces such as chests and narrative beats deeper within the structure. This progression encourages exploration while managing difficulty ramp-up and minimizing player congestion across multiple groups.

This piece highlights:

  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration with environment, narrative, and NPC teams

  • Encounter design focused on vertical gameplay and spatial clarity

  • Organic player funneling from exterior spaces into interior challenges

  • Scalable layout supporting multiple groups without pathing conflicts
